Troopers responded to a single-car crash in the eastbound lanes at Nazareth Pike in Bethlehem Township around 5:15 a.m. and found that a separate five-car pileup had occurred as a result of the first crash, state police said.
Pavel Sanchez, 41, was driving a Chevrolet Camaro that was left disabled with heavy front-end damage in the left lane while five cars — three SUVs, a pickup truck, and a sedan — were involved in a pileup crash as they attempted to swerve around his vehicle, according to police.
Sanchez was arrested after allegedly failing a series of field sobriety tests and taken into custody for further chemical testing following the crashes, which involved only minor injuries.
He will be charged via criminal complaint with driving under the influence, police said.
Route 22 E. was closed for around two hours for the crash cleanup.
Assisting agencies include Hanover Township Fire, Hanover Township Ambulance, Bethlehem Township EMS, Bethlehem Township Fire, and Bath Towing.
